FAQs — Mom's Animal Bites Clinic

Question 1

Do I need an appointment to visit?

Accepted Answer

No appointment is needed. All our branches accept walk-ins seven days a week during clinic hours (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM). For emergencies, we are available 24 hours. Simply walk in and our staff will attend to you right away.

Question 2

What should I do immediately after an animal bite?

Accepted Answer

Act immediately: (1) Wash the wound with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes. (2) Apply an antiseptic such as Betadine or 70% isopropyl alcohol. (3) Proceed to the nearest Mom's Animal Bites Clinic as soon as possible. Do not wait for symptoms — rabies is fatal once symptoms appear.

Question 3

Is treatment covered by PhilHealth?

Accepted Answer

Yes. PhilHealth coverage is available at our accredited branches in Los Baños, Lipa, and Ibaan. Please bring your PhilHealth ID or Member Data Record (MDR) when you visit to facilitate processing.

Question 4

How many vaccine doses are required?

Accepted Answer

The standard post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) schedule requires doses on Day 0, 3, 7, and 28. Completing all doses is essential for full protection against rabies. A vaccination card will be issued at your first visit to help you track your schedule.

Question 5

What animals require anti-rabies treatment?

Accepted Answer

Any warm-blooded animal can potentially carry rabies. The most common sources of concern are dogs, cats, and bats. Even if the animal appears healthy, it is strongly recommended to seek medical evaluation after any bite, scratch, or contact with saliva on broken skin.

Question 6

What is the difference between Category I, II, and III bites?

Accepted Answer

Category I: Touching or feeding animals, licks on intact skin — no treatment needed. Category II: Nibbling of uncovered skin, minor scratches without bleeding — wound washing and vaccine required. Category III: Deep bites, scratches that draw blood, or saliva contact with mucous membranes — wound washing, Rabies Immunoglobulin (RIG), and vaccine required. Our staff will assess your category upon arrival.

Question 7

Can children receive anti-rabies treatment?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Anti-rabies vaccines are safe and recommended for patients of all ages, including infants and young children. Our staff are experienced in caring for pediatric patients and will ensure the treatment is administered safely and comfortably.

Question 8

What if I miss a scheduled vaccine dose?

Accepted Answer

Contact us as soon as possible if you miss a dose. Do not skip or abandon the schedule — incomplete vaccination significantly reduces your protection. Our staff will advise you on the best course of action depending on how much time has passed.

Question 9

Do you offer pre-exposure vaccination (PrEP)?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is available for pet owners, veterinary workers, and individuals at higher risk of animal contact. PrEP involves a 3-dose series and reduces the post-exposure regimen to just two booster doses if a bite occurs.

Question 10

Where are your clinics located?

Accepted Answer

We have 12 branches across Laguna and Batangas — including Los Baños, Bay, Sta. Rosa, Calamba, Alaminos, San Pablo, Biñan, Rosario, Ibaan, Lipa (2 branches), and San Jose. Visit our Clinics page for full addresses and directions.
